Day 8 - Carbisdale Castle.

Today we arrived at Carbisdale Castle hostel. The hike to the castle from the train station was much more difficult than I anticipated and it was really the first time that I regretted bringing a suitcase with wheels. But I got it up the hill anyway, and was really happy when I got to the castle. :]

The castle was built by the Duchess of Sutherland. Her husband's family didn't like her much, so when her husband died, she built the castle right on the border of Caithness and Sutherland. Also near the castle was the train tracks that was the only travel between the two. She built a clock tower with faces on three sides and the side without a face was directed at the train tracks. So everytime her husband's family traveled past, she wouldn't give them the "time of day." That's where the saying originated.

The castle is supposedly haunted. I know some of the group want to see if this is true, but I would prefer to be oblivious to it. Ken told us a ghost story tonight - it really wasn't that scary, but I may not be able to sleep all that well tonight. :[

However, there really isn't much to do here. We are basically out in the middle of nowhere! It will be nice to hang out with everyone for a change. It will be a good way to get to know each other a little better. A little "team bonding," if you will.
Tomorrow: Dunbeath!
